Article Types
The Journal of Global Arts Studies (JGAS) accepts scholarly manuscripts that fall within the aims and scope of the journal.
JGAS may consider the following article types: Research Articles, Review Articles, Case Studies, and Special Issue Articles are treated as peer-reviewed scholarly articles. Other scholarly materials, including Essays, Interviews, Book Reviews, Exhibition Reviews, Conference Reports, and other materials approved by the Editorial Board, may be subject to editorial assessment or external peer review depending on their nature, length, academic content, and editorial judgment. The article types are as follows:
1. Research Article
A Research Article presents original scholarly research, analysis, argument, or interpretation. It should make a clear contribution to the fields of global arts, visual culture, cultural studies, art history, performance studies, media arts, cultural heritage, museum and curatorial studies, arts policy, or related areas.
2. Review Article
A Review Article provides a critical review and synthesis of existing research, theories, debates, methods, or developments in a specific field or topic relevant to JGAS.
3. Case Study
A Case Study examines a specific artwork, artist, exhibition, institution, cultural project, performance, community practice, policy, event, or other relevant case in depth.
4. Essay
An Essay presents a focused scholarly discussion, theoretical reflection, critical argument, or interpretive analysis on a topic related to global arts and cultural studies.
5. Interview
An Interview presents scholarly, artistic, or professional dialogue with artists, researchers, curators, cultural practitioners, policymakers, or other relevant figures. Interviews should include appropriate context, introduction, and editorial preparation.
6. Book Review
A Book Review critically evaluates a recently published book relevant to the aims and scope of JGAS. It should summarize the book’s main contribution and provide scholarly assessment.
7. Exhibition Review
An Exhibition Review critically examines an exhibition, biennale, festival, curatorial project, museum program, or related cultural event. It should provide context, description, and critical evaluation.
8. Conference Report
A Conference Report introduces and evaluates an academic conference, symposium, workshop, forum, or related scholarly event relevant to the journal’s fields.
9. Special Issue Article
A Special Issue Article is submitted as part of a themed issue approved by the Co-Editors-in-Chief, the Editor-in-Chief where appointed, and the Editorial Board. Special issue articles are subject to the same editorial screening, peer review, and publication ethics standards as regular peer-reviewed scholarly article submissions.
10. Other Scholarly Materials
JGAS may consider other types of scholarly materials where appropriate, subject to editorial approval.
All submitted manuscripts must comply with the Author Guidelines, Publication Ethics, AI Ethics Policy, Copyright and Open Access Policy, and other relevant JGAS policies.
