Abstract

Background: In the context of rapid urban renewal, old communities are generally facing the problems of deterioration of the material environment and weakening of memory value, and it is urgent to take into account the renewal path of culture and life. Objective: In response to this gap, this study attempts to propose a community renewal method with both theoretical depth and design feasibility from the perspective of “memory”. Methods: Literature analysis, field survey, behavioral observation, questionnaire survey and semi-structured interview were used in this study. Under the guidance of collective memory, urban imagery and sense of place, the material space of the community, the daily behavior and emotional identity of residents are systematically sorted out. Results: The study proposed the memory space reconstruction strategy of “path-node-scene”, and constructed a complete set of landscape design schemes with the core concept of “flowers all the way”. Conclusion: The results show that memory-oriented spatial renewal not only improves the environmental quality, but also strengthens the emotional connection and sense of identity of the community, providing verifiable practical value for the sustainable renewal of the old community.
